Copper Pipe
I was curious about copper piping. In my basement there are all kinds of copper piping. It was there when I moved in. I used to kick them around and finally moved a bunch into a stack. Was wondering how much all those might be worth or could possibly be worth in the future.
Any ideas? |
Re: Copper Pipe
You missed a great time to sell last year....scrap copper was bringing almost 3 bucks/lb. I understand it's under a buck now.

Re: Copper Pipe
kick them around down there in the basement for another year or two, and the Obama inflation will bring the price back up.
|
Re: Copper Pipe
I would just save them to use them as, well,um pipe
It would be a shame to scrap good good pipe ;in my opinion run a line to your garden or build a solar water heater with them |
Re: Copper Pipe
Hold it. Copper will go up.
|
Re: Copper Pipe
Hold on to it. It's a good inflation hedge. A falling dollar and economic growth will light a fire under its ass and i'm betting it will rocket back to above $3, whenever that may be.
Copper pipe is always considered #2 Copper, so it's usually 20 or 30 cents lower than the price of #1 (bare, bright copper wire). |
Re: Copper Pipe
copper pipe, copper pennies.
how many pennys would it take to equal the weight of the pipe? save it |
Re: Copper Pipe
Thanks guys. Last night after I posted this I went down and was looking around and there are some good pipes down there. Definitely copper piping. I am not sure how many pounds is there but they ain't light. haha
I treated them a little better this time. :5_1_120: |
Re: Copper Pipe
take a set of pipe cutters and a big plastic barrel, make yourself a savings account.

Re: Copper Pipe
If you cut the pipe up you will DESTROY it's value, look in the Yellow pages for a plumbing outfit and see what they will give you for it (then buy Silver with the proceeds.) If you lived in the SF bay area, I would take it off your hands.

Granted IF you need it or know any shady plummers it shouldn't be scrapped. CR |
Re: Copper Pipe
What's interesting is the copper pipe I have down in the cellar looks unused. Not sure if a plumber used to live here but if he did why didn't he bring it with him when he moved out???
It looks like a bunch was bought for a project but was never used. I have no idea how many pounds I have. Any idea how much 12 inches would weigh for instance?? |

OK....I want you to stop and think about what is missing from that question. Hint: o o :111: |
Re: Copper Pipe
why don't you just weigh it on the scale in your bathroom?
that's what i'd do. |
Re: Copper Pipe
Tn Andy, I must be dense cause I still don't get it LOL
S Goldenburgerfries  Some of the pipes are like 12 feet long. I don't want to carry it all upstairs or even if I took the scale down there I have no way of positioning the pipe on top of the scale. And I ain't going out in the snow to do it  |

Re: Copper Pipe
oh no.
math is so HARD. Specific gravity of copper is 8.96 |
Re: Copper Pipe
ruprick you are a genius. I will try that. The pipe also looks to be about 7/8
Not sure the thickness. |
Re: Copper Pipe
12 inches weigh zip, nada, nothing.
But 12 inches of copper pipe does weigh something. How much? I dont know. |
